Plasma Contemporary is a curatorial-editorial platform and a non-profit association founded in 2023 by Lois Valvi and Ecem Meric. Raised in India and Turkey and brought together in Paris, Plasma operates nomadically through centralizing the culture within women-led communities.

 

We work with women professionals in the contemporary art scene whose practices engage with moving identities, disciplines, and cultural contexts. As an independent, nomadic initiative, Plasma seeks to build lasting relations while exploring alternative ways of producing and presenting contemporary art.

 

Inspired by plasma, the fourth state of matter, our vision draws on its capacity for transformation, adaptability, and interaction. Plasma is dynamic by nature, in a constant shift through its relationship with the surrounding forces. This offers a framework for our approach: as a fluid and responsive process where different practices can generate new possibilities.

Lois Valvi (b. 1998, India) studied her Bachelor’s in Fine Arts at the American University of Paris. Based between Minneapolis and Paris, she works across the fields of art and gastronomy. She is the co-founder of Plasma Contemporary, an independent curatorial and editorial platform.

Ecem Meric (b. 2000, Turkey) studied her Bachelor’s in Fine Arts at the American University of Paris, later completed her Master’s in Curating Contemporary Art at the Royal College of Art in London. Currently based in Istanbul, she is the co-founder of Plasma Contemporary, an independent curatorial and editorial platform.
